A truth that we live by? The smallest details can make the biggest impact. From window latches to door pulls, paper towel racks to light switches, good design is found in the minutiae.
One particular source of our obsession is bathroom hardware. Here, practicality is key: Bathroom fixtures are put to use every day, often by multiple parties—and they’re subject to constant wear and tear. Because of the fairly grueling functional demands, it can be difficult to find hardware that’s as attractive as it is hard-working.
Enter Infinity Drain, which focuses on creating architectural shower drains with innovative functional capabilities. Fabricated in Long Island, NY, Infinity Drain produces both ready-made and custom shower drains—all with an exacting eye to detail.
Keep scrolling for a few of our favorite upgrades to the ho-hum shower drain.
Above: A standout: The Disco Rectangle drain’s smooth, curved edges evoke midcentury modern design—and echo the popular curvilinear shapes seen everywhere at the moment, from mirrors to lights—but it looks at home in any aesthetic scheme. Above: The drain is available in ten finishes, but if you have a particular finish that you need matched, Infinity Drain can do it. The unique tile insert lies flush with the floor for a look that’s inconspicuous and polished at once, so the drain goes from utilitarian to a unique feature. Above: The Disco Rectangle comes in three ready-made sizes, but it can also be customized to fit any space. And because it’s installed away from the wall, it creates a distinct shower detail. The Adhesion Linear Drain, another of our favorite offerings, was developed in collaboration with international architecture, design, and planning firm Gensler. Known for their innovative take on functional product development, the Gensler and Infinity teams approached the Adhesion Linear Drain with scientific curiosity. The final design was inspired by the principles of adhesion, wherein water droplets stick to surfaces to form unique patterns. Above: “The pattern leverages the science of adhesion to redefine the way we think about architectural drainage,” explains Gensler design director EJ Chung. “The pattern’s circular water droplet concept is somewhat familiar…but the progressive twist on the round shape adds flair and an upscale energy.” What’s more, “the edges of the curved cutouts in the steel reflect light to mimic the glistening quality of water droplets,” says Chung. The resulting look is low-profile but highly considered—while allowing for quick draining after a shower. Above: The Adhesion Linear Drain comes in ten finishes and five sizes, ranging from 36 to 96 inches long. Paired with a glass shower door, the effect is almost invisible, a true bathroom luxury. An additional plus? The Adhesion line can also be installed in the sink for a cohesive look.
